Sharad Purnima is one of the important days in the Hindu calendar. It is also known as Kumara Purnima, Kojagiri Purnima, Navanna Purnima, or Kaumudi Purnima in different parts of India. On this auspicious occasion, a special Kojagiri Puja is performed in which Maa Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu are worshipped along with the Moon. Sharad Purnima 2019: Significance
It is believed that Moon’s rays have certain healing properties on this day, which nourish the body and the soul. People keep rice-kheer in the moonlight for the whole night as the moon rays are said to drip nectar. In the morning, the Rice-Kheer is distributed as Prasad.
Sharad Purnima is also famous as Raas Purnima in Braj, where Lord Krishna performed Maha Raas- dance of divine love. Several parts of the country pray to Lord Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth as she was born on this day. It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi takes rounds of the earth to watch the actions of human beings during this night.
