Assam: Final leg of "Ride for Conservation" bicycle rally flagged off at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary

Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 8 (ANI): The final leg of the Ride for Conservation bicycle rally undertaken by premier biodiversity conservation organization- Aaranyak to spread mass awareness for conservation of biodiversity as part of the year-long celebration of the organisation 35th Anniversary, was flagged off at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS) in Assam Morigaon district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Morigaon district, Dhruba Jyoti Nath and Range Officer of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, Pranjal Baruah, jointly flagged off the cycle rally in the presence of Aaranyak Publicity Secretary, Bijay Sankar Bora, Public Relations Officer, Gunajit Mazumdar and forest staff of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

Cyclists participating in the final leg of Ride for Conservation today included Arif Hussain, Swapan Nath, Suraj Bawri, Diganta Kumar Das, Luson Prakash Gogoi, Ankur Barman, Shyam Urang, Jahir Uddin Ahmed, Bipul Ganju, Shiva Sarkar, Nagar Basi Mandal, and Vishal Raj Khanikar.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nath lauded Aaranyak efforts to raise mass awareness on conservation of biodiversity at this crucial juncture when the people, the state, along with the rest of the planet, are facing the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change.

Range Officer Pranjal Baruah, applauding the efforts for promoting mass participation in conservation, stated that nature was crucial for the protection of wildlife and biodiversity, and hoped that Aaranyak would undertake more such initiatives in the days to come.

Authorities in all concerned national parks and other wildlife protection areas, Assam Forest Department, Assam Policy and concerned district administration extended overwhelming support to the conservation ride across the state to make the initiative a grand success, said Bijay Sankar Bora, who congratulated the cyclists showing tremendous resolve in undertaking the ride, overcoming all challenges.

The cyclists participating in the rally were felicitated at the Administrative Headquarters of Aaranyak in the city on the culmination of the Ride for Conservation that had been successfully led by senior Aaranyak official Arif Hussain, who was also one of the key members of the riding team.

The Ride for Conservation has covered fifteen wildlife protection areas in the state of Assam, including National Parks and several other wildlife sanctuaries and Reserve Forests, since it was ceremonially flagged from Orang National Park in March 2025.

The conservationists participating in the rally have held several mass contact programmes involving school students, college students, community members along its routes over the period to promote awareness for conservation of biodiversity, said Arif Hussain.

A large number of local cyclists participated in the ride in different legs of the event over the months making it a grand success. (ANI)
