High mobility Artillery wa a technology gap that needed to be addreed, for which the Mounted Gun Sytem (MGS) wa a viable olution. Accordingly, VRDE ha taken up a Technology Demontrator Project, Deign and Development of 155mm/52 calibre Mounted Gun Sytem (MGS) baed on ATAGS.
The goal of thi Technology Demontrator (TD) project wa to deign & develop an indigenou Mounted Gun Sytem. The gun ytem of ATAGS ha been adapted to an 8X8 cro-country wheeled vehicle along with tabilier and a neceary interface tructure. State-of-the-art technologie in the area of carrier vehicle, tabilier, Armoured Cabin, Ammunition handling crane, on-board power ource and integrated compact electronic controller have been developed in thi project.
Mounted Gun Sytem (MGS) i a cro-country truck-mounted heavy artillery gun ytem (baed on ATAGS 155mm/52Cal) with excellent hoot and coot capability and the highet range of fire in thi cla. It ha been indigenouly developed by involving Indian Indutrie, DPSU, and Premier Academia, under the leaderhip of DRDO.
MGS ha high mobility in term of gradient, ide lope, trench croing, and cro-country capability and can operate in both deert and mountainou terrain.
Hence, the advantage of thi ytem i that it can be rapidly deployed, matching the mobility of the mechanied force, detroy the enemy target and move out before retaliatory fire occur. A total of 01 No. MGS ha been realied through Indian Indutrie and ha undergone proof teting and field trial.
