Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], October 2 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 156th birth anniversary.
The Chief Minister said that India secular fabric was preserved due to the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi.
Our India is a secular country for all religious people, and it is Mahatma Gandhi who has sown the basic philosophy of it! He is the power that will always give us the strength to face the seeds of hatred among the people and the forces of division whenever they arise, CM Stalin wrote on X.
CM Stalin also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for issuing a commemorative postage stamp on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh centenary celebrations.
On the centenary of the #RSS movement, which gave shape to the dreams of the religious leader who killed our Father of the Nation, the one who is in charge of the country leadership must rescue India from the pitiful state of issuing postage stamps and commemorative coins! This is the pledge that all the people of the country should take on Gandhiji birthday! he said.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the Chief Guest at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister released a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and coin highlighting the RSS contributions to the nation and will also address the gathering.
Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, revered as Mahatma Gandhi, was the pioneer of non-violent resistance. Through his philosophy of ahimsa and satyagraha, he mobilised millions of Indians to participate in the freedom struggle against British colonial rule.
On January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse at Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi, just months after India attained independence. (ANI)
