Himachal: CM Sukhu stresses urgent need to study rising incidents of cloudburst

Shimla (Himachal Pradeh) [India], July 7 (ANI): Himachal Pradeh Chief Miniter Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday aid that diater poe the bigget challenge for the future and combating the advere effect of climate change i a preing concern for humanity.
While preiding over the 9th meeting of the State Diater Management Authority, the Chief Miniter expreed eriou concern over the riing incident of cloud burt in the State and aid that the matter had alo been raied with the Union Home Miniter, Amit Shah.
The Chief Miniter tated that over the pat few day, Mandi ditrict ha recorded 123 per cent exce rainfall, cauing widepread devatation in the ditrict. In contrat, Shimla ditrict ha received 105 per cent exce rainfall. He aid that recently, 19 cloud burt have occurred, cauing ignificant loe to human live and propertie.
The preent tate government i making all-out effort to rehabilitate and provide relief to the affected familie. He aid that uncientific muck dumping wa leading to damage and treed a cientific mechanim for it dipoal to prevent further damage.
Sukhu directed the SDMA to iue regular weather update to the public and to counter miinformation circulating on ocial media. He aid that SDMA wa the ole authority to iue alert and urged the people to rely only on the official information. He aid that afe contruction activitie hould be promoted, and people mut contruct their houe at leat 100 meter away from the river and rivulet.
The Chief Miniter aid that the State Government wa trengthening the SDRF, and a new campu wa being et up at Palampur in Kangra ditrict. The State Intitute of Diater Management would be etablihed at Dr Manmohan Singh Himachal Intitute of Public Adminitration, Shimla, while Himachal Pradeh Univerity, Shimla, would carry out reearch and development work. He alo directed to conduct a tudy on high-rik glacial lake and rope in the local community to raie awarene.
He aid that diater have now become frequent phenomena, and in 2023, Himachal Pradeh uffered ignificant loe during the monoon eaon, affecting thouand of people. He aid that R 1260 crore were dibured to the ditrict adminitration and variou department for carrying out relief and rehabilitation operation. An additional R 138 crore wa alo provided under the mitigation fund.
The Chief Miniter directed the government department to et up their project at leat 100 meter away from the water tream to minimie the loe. He aid that the R 891 crore diater rik reduction project wa being implemented under which trengthening of the HPSDMA and the DDMA would be done along with fortifying diater preparedne through an effective early warning ytem and upporting mitigation meaure, which would be completed in March 2030.
