"I believe Supreme Court will also provide similar judgement": Brother of accused Tanveer Ansari on 2006 Mumbai blasts

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 24 (ANI): On the decision of the Supreme Court to stay Bombay High Court judgement acquitting the 12 accused people in the 2006 Mumbai blasts, Maqsood Ahmed, brother of accused Tanveer Ansari on Thursday asserted his belief that the Supreme Court would provide relief, and further thanked the agencies who carefully investigated the matter.

I believe that the way the High Court granted us relief, the Supreme Court will also provide a similar judgment... Tanveer met the family after 19 years... I thank the agencies who carefully investigated the matter... Ahmed told ANI.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Praniti Shinde took a jibe at the Maharashtra government over the decision and claimed that they did not do enough.

She further stated that the acquisition of the accused was a concern.

I think the Maharashtra government didnt do enough, that they (12 accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case) got acquitted. This stay is not on their (the accused) release. This is a cause of concern. There have been a lot of lapses on the part of the Maharashtra government, Shinde told ANI.

This comes after the Supreme Court stayed the Bombay High Court judgement on acquitting 12 accused people in connection with the 2006 Mumbai blasts.

A bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh clarified that the stay order would not affect the release of the accused persons from jail. The top courts decision came on a plea filed by the Maharashtra government following the Bombay High Court July 21 decision to acquit twelve persons who were accused in the 2006 train blasts.

During the hearing, the Solicitor General of India (SGI) Tushar Mehta, appearing for Maharashtra, sought a stay of the Bombay High Court judgement by contending that certain findings of the said verdict will affect other cases being probed by the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
