New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru Univerity Student Union (JNUSU) preident Nitih Kumar wa ruhed to Safdarjung Hopital on Monday night after he complained of evere chet pain. Kumar, along with everal tudent, ha been on an indefinite hunger trike for over a week, demanding reveral of recent policy deciion related to PhD admiion and hotel accommodation.
In a tatement, the JNUSU aid, We demand immediate attention to hi health and the jut demand of the tudent. The adminitration ilence in the face of a eriou health emergency i unacceptable. The union aid Kumar had gone without food for everal day a part of the protet, and hi condition deteriorated rapidly.
The indefinite hunger trike began on June 26, with tudent demanding the reintatement of JNU in-houe entrance exam (JNUEE) for PhD admiion intead of relying olely on the UGC-NET and CUET mechanim. Student have alo demanded the withdrawal of eviction notice iued to PhD cholar and the aurance of hotel accommodation until the completion of thei ubmiion.
While the univerity ha tated that financial and logitical contraint make it difficult to hold eparate entrance exam for all department, it ha agreed to conduct JNUEE only for Cinema Studie and Korean Studie. Admiion to other PhD programme will be baed on national eligibility tet. The adminitration ha alo announced a econd PhD admiion cycle in December and agreed to extend hotel tay for cholar in the final tage of ubmiion.
Depite thee tep, the JNUSU ha alleged that the adminitration remain unreponive to the broader et of tudent concern. Several tudent participating in the protet have reported health complication. The union ha reiterated it demand for a dialogue with the adminitration and warned that it will intenify the agitation if the demand remain unmet. (ANI)
