"Matter of great pride for us": Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's parents on his son's incredible feat

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 17 (ANI): Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, a proud son of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has made India and his family proud by returning safely to Earth after an 18-day stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS). As part of the Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu Shukla journey has been a remarkable achievement for India space ambitions.

Upon asking what it was like as a mother, the moment he came back, and what conversation happened, she shared, His journey was very good and everything is good, and he will come and meet us soon...maybe PM Modi is not here...the plan to come to Delhi got cancelled, now they will come together, that is when we will meet him, he will come in August only.

There will be a lot of excitement when, after so many days, we meet our kids, there is no doubt in it that or not...we will feel a lot of pride that we will be able to hug our son at that time, she shared upon the moment of excitement of meeting his son, she added.

As part of the Axiom-4 mission, Shubhanshu Shukla spent 18 days aboard the ISS, conducting scientific experiments and outreach activities. His journey marks a significant milestone for India space exploration program, showcasing the country growing presence in the global space community.

It was a very emotional moment for us, we will never forget that moment, when he was landing, I became very emotional, I was only thinking that how quickly he should land safely, this was going on in my mind again and again, there was turmoil, when we started landing safely then everything started looking good, she shared upon being emotional after Shubhanshu successful operation.

Lastly, she shared, Now he has become the pride of the whole country, he is no longer my alone pride. Everyone will pray for him. That is a good thing, and it feels great to see that when everyone prays like this and offers prayers, it feels wonderful. I am absolutely proud of him... We have now received recognition from our children. Normally, children are recognised by their parents; now we are getting recognised by our children. This is a matter of great pride for us.

The Shukla family, including Shubhanshu father, Shambhu Dayal Shukla, and sister, Shuchi Mishra, eagerly awaited his return, offering prayers to Lord Shiva for his safe landing. As news of his successful splashdown reached them, the family erupted in joy, celebrating this remarkable achievement.

His father, Shambhu Dayal Shukla, shared whether he talked to him or not, Yes, we have talked, he is capable, he is with his family, he is getting better mentally, physically, there is no problem, he told me that everything is fine, it is good, very good.

Upon asking about his arrival in India, he said, There is still some time for him to come to India, then as far as his mission work is concerned, whatever there is about the contract, etc., it will have to be done about it, after completing it, he has plans to come in August.

This is an occasion of pride, glory and joy for the entire country. Today, the Cabinet, along with the country, congratulates Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla on his successful return to Earth.

On July 15, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla landed back safely on Earth from his space journey. Launched on June 25, with Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla as the Mission Pilot, this mission marked a watershed moment for India, as it was the first time an Indian astronaut had travelled to the ISS.

The Cabinet commended the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the entire community of Indian scientists and engineers for their relentless efforts that made this achievement possible, said the official statement. During his time aboard ISS, Group Captain Shukla worked with fellow members of the Axiom-4 Crew and Expedition 73, embodying India growing leadership in international space cooperation.

He conducted pioneering experiments in microgravity on subjects such as muscle regeneration, algal and microbial growth, crop viability, microbial survivability, cognitive performance in space, and the behaviour of cyanobacteria. These studies will deepen the global understanding of human spaceflight and microgravity science, providing critical inputs for India future missions. This mission significantly elevates India global standing in space exploration.

It is a vital stepping stone towards India own human spaceflight ambition, including the Gaganyaan and the Bharatiya Antariksha Station. India recent landmark achievements include the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the South Pole of the Moon on 23rd August 2023, a day etched in history as India National Space Day. Likewise, India Aditya-L1 Mission, launched in 2023, has significantly enhanced humanity understanding of solar activity. (ANI)
