New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): The Minitry of Home Affair (MHA) ha written to all tate and Union Territorie (UT) to make pecial proviion in prion and correctional intitution to enure the afety, care, and well-being of elderly inmate.
In an adviory iued on July 1, the MHA highlighted that prion intitution acro the country houe everal vulnerable inmate, including enior citizen who often require additional aitance to manage their day-to-day activitie in a cutodial environment.
The adviory ha been ent to the Chief Secretarie of all tate and UT, a well a, the Director General and Inpector General of Prion and Correctional Service.
Reiterating it commitment to the welfare of elderly citizen, the MHA emphaized the need for pecially acceible accommodation in prion to meet the phyical need of aged inmate.
The tate and UT are requeted to make uitable proviion for pecial acceible accommodation in prion and correctional intitution for the elderly prioner, keeping in view their phyical limitation, read the adviory.
It further urged prion authoritie to take into account the dietary requirement of elderly prioner and develop meal plan tailored to their age-related health challenge.
The adviory alo treed the importance of providing adequate healthcare ervice, including mental health upport, to cater to the pecific need of the elderly population behind bar. Moreover, prion taff hould be enitied and trained to better undertand and repond to the challenge faced by enior inmate.
Special attention may alo be given to the dietary requirement of uch elderly inmate, with meal plan curated in accordance with the challenge of advanced age. It may alo be enured that adequate healthcare facilitie---including mental health ervice are made available in prion to addre the pecial need of elderly inmate, mention the adviory.
