Plea filed in Delhi HC seeking probe into Karol Bagh Vishal Mega Mart fire that claimed two lives

New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): In the wake of the fatal fire at Vihal Mega Mart in Delhi Karol Bagh that claimed two live, NGO Kutumb ha filed an application in the Delhi High Court, urging a court-monitored invetigation into alleged negligence by the tore management, Delhi Police, Fire Service, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The application ha been ubmitted in connection with an ongoing matter related to another recent tragedy, the July 27, 2024, incident in Old Rajinder Nagar, where 3 tudent reportedly died after a drain burt caued flooding in the baement of a UPSC coaching centre.
The NGO ha flagged eriou lape in the enforcement of afety regulation and ha quetioned the iuance of licene and No Objection Certificate (NOC) to commercial etablihment operating in congeted area without adhering to mandatory norm.
The plea eek direction from the Court to invetigate the conduct of MCD, Fire Service, and Police official for failing to enforce afety protocol.
It alo eek direction for the Aement of whether Vihal Mega Mart and nearby commercial unit hold valid NOC, and identification of etablihment operating illegally.
It further eek direction for the Immediate cloure of unlicened hopping centre, retaurant, coaching intitute, and other uch entitie in Karol Bagh and adjoining area until a report i ubmitted and Direction to Delhi Police to file a tatu report on the FIR and ecure CCTV footage from July 4 to July 5.
The fire, which broke out on July 5, led to the death of 25-year-old Dhirender Pratap, who wa found dead inide a lift, upected to have uffocated. Hi lat meage to hi brother indicated he wa trapped and gaping for breath.
A econd, charred body wa later recovered during the firefighting operation. The caue of the fire i till being invetigated, with a upected hort circuit a the likely trigger. The High Court i expected to hear the matter oon. (ANI)
