Haridwar (Uttarakhand) [India], July 27 (ANI): A devastating stampede occurred in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, resulting in six deaths and multiple injuries.
According to Haridwar District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, a rumour that an electric wire had broken sparked panic among the crowd. An investigation is underway to identify the person responsible for spreading the false rumour, and a magisterial inquiry will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
While speaking to ANI, he said, We found through photos and videos that someone spread the rumour of electric wire breaking, while looking at the injured or the dead, we did not get any such indication...We will investigate who spread the rumour that caused the stampede, and a magisterial inquiry will be set up investigating cameras and other means.
He also confirmed the death of six people. When asked the exact location of the stampede, he said, This is Mansa Devi C Dev marg..Paidal marg where this situation is happening.
Furthermore, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal added that around 35 people were brought to the hospital, and six are confirmed dead.
He said, At 9 oclock, through police control, information was received about some people being injured in the stampede near the Mansa Devi main road, in which the police present there immediately brought all the people to the hospital with the help of the people. Nearly 35 people were brought here to the GD hospital, of whom the deaths of 6 people have been confirmed so far; the rest are being treated here or have been sent to the health centre.
On asking about the reason behind this stampede, Dobal said, Prima facie, the stampede was triggered by a rumour of an electric shock on stairs 100 metres down the temple route.:
