Patna (Bihar) [India], July 17 (ANI): RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the NDA government in Bihar, citing the state deteriorating law and order situation.

He also targeted statements made by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha, who claimed they would take drastic measures against criminals, questioning the logic behind searching for them in paatal (the underworld) when they are openly roaming the streets.

Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha say, ghar mein ghus ke maarenge and paatal se dhoondenge...Criminals are out on streets, why are they going to paatal looking for them? We have said earlier too that after NDA came to power, there is criminal disorder of law and order. Criminals have become vijay and samrat...This is true jungle raj...They should see what is happening in their rule. Nobody is safe..., Tejashwi Yadav told ANI.

He expressed his concerns over the rising crime rates, stating that Bihar is gripped by fear, with criminals committing crimes openly.

This comes after a prisoner on parole who was admitted in Paras Hospital for medical treatment was shot dead fuelling concerns over law and order in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav questioned whether anyone is safe in the state, given the brazen nature of the crime.

Chandan Mishra was a known criminal with dozens of murder cases registered against him. The Police believe that the rival gang has carried out the shooting. The prisoner is undergoing treatment.

A criminal named Chandan Mishra, resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered. He was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him. He is undergoing treatment, and with the help of the Buxar police, we are identifying the members of the rival gang, Chandan Sheru gang, SSP Kartikay Sharma said.

Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar on Thursday termed the firing incident at Paras Hospital in Patna as unfortunate and said the matter is of serious concern, particularly as the hospital has its own security arrangements.

This is a very sad incident because the incident took place inside Paras which is a famous hospital. It has its own security system. The criminals breached it completely and went inside. This is a matter of concern and we will review the security system of Paras, why it happened and who was on duty and draw the attention of the Paras management, DGP Vinay Kumar told ANI.

Tejashwi Yadav described the Chief Minister as unconscious, unaware, and incapable of managing the state, claiming that Bihar is being controlled by Bhunja Party leaders and retired tax officers acting on behalf of the BJP.

In a post on social media platform X, Tejashwi Yadav wrote, Government criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar? Has this happened before 2005?

He criticized the police for seemingly giving up on controlling criminals, highlighting a statement made by ADG that crime incidents increase during the monsoon season, which Tejashwi called childish.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Kundan Krishnan said murder cases usually increase in Bihar during the months of April, May and June, as many farmers are not engaged in agricultural work.

Recently, a lot of murders have happened in the whole of Bihar. Most murders happen in the months of April, May and June. This continues until the rains come, as most farmers do not have work, ADG Kundan Krishnan said.

He added that crime reduces after the monsoon, as the farming community becomes busy with agricultural work. After the rains, people in the farming community get busy and the incidents reduce... So we have formed a new cell this month. The work of that cell will be to create a database of all the former shooters, contract killers and keep an eye on them, he added.

Assembly poll bound Bihar has witnessed a surge in crime recently, with a significant increase in murders and violent incidents. Bihar reported 50 murders in just 14 days, sparking concerns over law and order in the state.

According to police data, Bihar recorded a monthly average of 232 murder cases in 2024, which has risen slightly to 233 per month in the first five months of 2025.

Some notable incidents include the murder of businessman Gopal Khemka in Patna, the killing of three businessmen in Patna, and the shooting of a lawyer and a BJP leader in Patna. (ANI)
