"Murders, robberies, thefts are taking place daily under DMK govt": Tamil Maanila Congress Chief Vasan

Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 9 (ANI): Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president and Rajya Sabha MP GK Vasan on Saturday alleged that among the southern states, Tamil Nadu has the worst law and order situation, where crimes have gradually increased compared to the previous AIADMK regime.

Compared to the AIADMK regime, murders, robberies, thefts, and sexual crimes are taking place daily under the present government, Vasan said in Thanjavur.

He was speaking to reporters after presiding over a Delta Zone Youth Wing administrators meeting of the TMC in Thanjavur.

On the issue of including North Indian migrants in Tamil Nadu electoral rolls, Vasan said, If the law in a democracy allows them to be voters, they cannot be removed. There is a proper legal procedure for this, and the Election Commission monitors it. Why do opposition parties raise such doubts out of fear of defeat? Out of fear of losing, they are accusing the Election Commission.

When asked how many seats the TMC would contest in the upcoming elections, he said, We believe our alliance will strengthen further. There is still time for decisions. Whatever alliance we are in, we have always been an exemplary party. We are a party that can unite alliances, not break them.

Commenting on the Union government, Vasan said, Under Prime Minister Modi leadership, and with ministers like Nirmala Sitharaman, India is making poverty reduction and eradication a priority. Our economy has become the third largest in the world, and the Tamil Nadu government must recognise this achievement.

Earlier on August 5, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and Member of Parliament Thol. Thirumavalavan strongly reiterated the need for special legislation to prevent the increasing number of honour killings in Tamil Nadu and other states across India.

We have been continuously demanding a special law to curb honour killings. Weve raised the issue in Parliament as well. Democratic forces are consistently voicing against caste- and religion-based murders happening across the country, but the Union government is indifferent. Even the Supreme Court has instructed that a special law be enacted, and in the meantime, has issued guidelines to the police for preventive measures. Unfortunately, no state police force is following those guidelines, Thirumavalavan said, addressing media personnel at the airport.

He further announced that the VCK will organise protests on August 9 and 11, demanding the enactment of a special law and added, I will personally participate in the August 9 protest in Chennai. Tamil Nadu should set an example for other states by implementing such a law first. (ANI)
