Showing up drunk to your anti-liquor activist bride might not be the wisest idea. A bride, known for closing a few doors of liquor shops walks out of her wedding after the groom showed up drunk at their wedding. The incident took place in Baniamala, a village of the Jajpur district and the bride, Sanghamitra Sethi is listed as an active member of the self-help group (SHG) who played an important role in shutting up a few liquor shops in the neighbouring village two years ago.

According to TOI reports, bride Sanghamitra grew suspicious of the groom, Hadibandhu Sethi’s state after she caught him with the smell of alcohol. Confronted by the thought of having to marry a drunkard, the bride mustered up the courage and stormed off the wedding ceremony leaving the groom stranded at the mandap. 

Following the incident, parents of both the families are reported to have the tried to convince Sanghamitra but to no avail. To discuss the issue, a meeting was held in which the father of the groom was asked to return Rs 71,000, a gold chain and a gold ring.

The resolute bride, Sanghamitra said that she was not worried of criticism and backlash. The president of Ma Mangal SHG, Sanjukta Jena have lauded the decision of the bride calling it a brave example for the village by denying marriage to an inebriated groom.
