A brown bear tumbling down a rocky, steep mountain in J&K's Kargil after it was pelted with stones by locals will have you questioning if there is an ounce of humanity still left. A clip, which is now going viral for all the wrong reasons shows the bear struggling to get a hold on-to an uneven rocky cliff in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil before people in the backdrop start throwing stones at it that eventually drove the helpless bear to fall into the river. The video that opened up the eyes of a lot of people regarding the ill-treatment of animals was even retweeted by the former chief minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti. “Heartbreaking & inhuman. Why invade their habitat in the first place?†she tweeted.

Following the incident, netizens have demanded to identify those behind the appalling act. Reports have it that deputy commissioner of Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary have now ordered an inquiry and teams from the wildlife and other departments were directed to trace the animal. “An FIR has been registered,†the DC said, adding that they are looking to identify the people who threw stones.
