This very disturbing incident where a Chinese father pawns his two-year-old is one straight out of Clint Eastwood’s Changeling. According to the Daily Mail, the father pawned his two-year-old just as in the Angelina Jolie’s thriller movie on finding out that he didn't have enough money to pay for his meal at a restaurant in South China.

According to Chinese reports, the man in Foshan, Guangdong pawned his own flesh and blood after finding out that he was 1-yuan (10p) short of paying for the 6-yuan (68p) for the bowl of noodles. He is said to have his two-year-old daughter as pawn at the restaurant telling the owner he would 'redeem' the child the next day.

Surveillance footage released by Southern Television Guangdong that made its way into social media shows the father pushing the little girl back into the shop as he attempts to leave without her.

'I am going to leave her here as pawn. I'll come back tomorrow with cash and get her,' the man is heard telling a staff member at the cashier's counter.

The restaurant owners who eventually called the police told reporters, 'We sat the girl down in the kitchen and gave her a bottle of soy milk’.

'The man insisted he wasn't abandoning his daughter and was just trying to get some cash,' officer Huang Zhenyu of the Shunde district police said

'But it took him a long time to return to the restaurant because his electric scooter ran out of battery and he had to wait for it to charge,' the officer added.

The man, surnamed Ding, has expressed remorse for his actions after receiving a 'stern lecture' from police, the report added according to Daily Mail.
