Indian national hits jackpot in Abu Dhabi (File Photo)
An Indian national in UAE on Friday hit a jackpot by winning a whopping dirham 15 million ($4 million) in a raffle draw in Abu Dhabi. The man named Shojith KS, who lives in Sharjah, won at the Abu Dhabi Duty-Free’s Big Ticket series draw which was live-streamed on Youtube.
However, Shojith may not know that he is the now a multi-millionaire. Well, the reason behind this is that the winner repeatedly rejected the calls of the officers who tried to get in touch with him. While talking to the Khaleej Times, Richard said, “If (our calls) don’t get through we will keep on trying. And if we still can’t get in touch with Shojith, we are going to his house – we know where he lives in Sharjah.”
It is to be noted that Richard conducts the Big Ticket Raffle at the Abu Dhabi International Airport every month.
Not only Shojith but another Indian expatriate Mangesh Mainde Mangesh won a brand new BMW 220i with his winning ticket number. Eight other Indian nationals and one Pakistani has won 9 consolation prizes.
This is not the first time an Indian has won big in UAE. Last year, Indian driver from Kerala John Varughese won dirham 12 million in the raffle draw. In January, another Keralite in the UAE had won a dirham 12 million in the raffle prize money in Abu Dhabi.
On the other hand, Sourav Dey had hit a jackpot to win $1 million (3.6 million dirhams) in Dubai Duty-Free raffle in October 2018. Two other winners, including an Indian man, drove away luxury vehicles. Forty-four-year-old Indian man, Ajith Babu drove home a BMW motorbike, while 40-year-old Sri Lankan national Sajeewa Niranjan won a Range Rover.
Previously in October 2017, eight Indians were among the 10 people who had won dirham 1 million each in a mega raffle draw in Abu Dhabi.
Looking at the list of winners, Indians prove to be the luckiest.
