Indian soldiers in Siachen will have a waterless bathing option. Siachen located in one of the highest altitudes in the eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas at about 35.421226°N 77.109540°E, bathing is more of a ‘luxury’ rather than a 'necessity' of personal hygiene for the soldiers deployed in the Siachen Glacier of the Himalayas. For the soldiers posted there in the sub-zero temperatures and the treacherous terrain, the New Year rings in a home-grown waterless body hygiene product that will allow them to bathe.
The products have been developed by researchers at the IIT, Delhi and can be used even in extreme weather conditions of under 60-degree centigrade. These products can reportedly be used even in extreme weather conditions of under 60 degrees centigrade, reported the Hindustan Times.

The bathing products have been ideally created for places with water scarcity such as the Siachen that will also save them up to 70 litres of bathing water. The products have already been tested and ordered by a Kolkata-based Eastern Command that keeps a check on India’s disputed border with China.
One of the officials said the products were termed useful by soldiers posted along Line of Actual Control with China in the Northeast. After the feedback, the Eastern command ordered hundreds of bottles for soldiers deployed at high-altitude areas, including Siachen glacier. With the latest waterless hygiene products, the soldiers will be able to bathe twice a week. In order to get a full body wash around 20 ml gel is sufficient, according to the report.
