A King Arthur version of a cake? A man’s over-the-top idea of planning to give his friend a three-foot sword so that she can cut her cake resulted not in celebration but an arrest. According to Mid-Day reports, Bandra police have arrested a man on Sunday night under the Arms Act for getting his friend a massive three-foot-long sword for her to cut her birthday cake.

According to the police, the arrested accused, Imran Mohamad Ali Shaikh, 29, a resident of Baiganwadi in Govandi along with 10-12 friends had gone to Bandra Bandstand to celebrate the birthday of one of his friends on Sunday night. They were on the sea-front promenade and had completed cake-cutting celebration when the police force led by one sub-inspector Bhimsen Gaikwad noticed the gigantic sword in the hands of Shaikh.

On being asked if Shaikh had a licence to carry the weapon to which he replied that he had got the sword from his friend.

The team confiscated the sword under possession of arms without licence and took the accused to the Bandra police where an FIR was filed under relevant sections of the Arms Act. “The accused was granted bail after he paid a Rs 10,000 bond to a magistrate court. The weapon has been seized. We are checking if Shaikh has any criminal record,” said Girish Anavarkar, senior inspector of Bandra police station.
