New Delhi:

A man has reportedly not spoken to his family in three years as the sound of them chewing makes him 'fly into a rage'. But, before you go on rolling your eyes calling the act heights much, the man identified as Derrol Murphy, 41, suffers from misophonia, a rare condition which causes certain noises to spark heightened emotional responses, driving him or any person for that matter nuts.

The 41-year-old from San Diego who is graphic design production manager said the disorder - also known as selective sound syndrome, has also seen him walk out on dates with noisy eaters. Infact, his condition is so rare that he is reported to spend the majority of his life thinking he was 'crazy'. Mr Murphy told the Mirror, ''I thought I was carzy  I thought I was crazy for many years. Little noises would make me just fly into a rage.

"People don't understand it and I can't explain it. It's affected relationships, especially people I've been dating and family members, because you take it out on the people closest to you because you think they should understand."I'm not an aggressive person, noises just anger me. I've had to walk out on dates if they are chewing really loudly, my face gives it away - I pull a look of disgust I can't hide."

Derrol, despite his unique condition managed to build a relationship with co-worker Kurt Vin adds whom he thought would never work added, "Hopefully, people will get a bigger understanding of it and realise that just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there."It's actually real and people need to be patient with people who have to deal with it. It's hard enough for us to figure out what's going on."
