In a bizarre incident in Noida, a wedding procession literally went down the drain when 15 people, including the groom, fell into a drain on Saturday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm when the baraat was dancing on a small suspension bridge at the Hoshiyarpur village in Noida’s Sector 52 when it suddenly collapsed, reported the Hindustan Times.
Two children, below 8 years of age, were also hurt in the accident and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The suspension bridge, which connected the wedding banquet hall’s gate to its lawn, was built over a drain.
The incident caused a hole in the pocket of the owner of the banquet hall, who had pay Rs 3 lakh in cash to the bride’s family. The wedding only resumed after that. Agitated onlookers the groom and his baraat had been dancing for over 10 minutes on the bridge while others walked across it to reach the lawn. The wedding venue had no alternate exits than the bridge.
The groom was a 35-year-old businessman from Ghaziabad, and the bride a 32-year-old resident of Delhi.
Mishaps during wedding processions always make their way to the news. Earlier, a horse carrying groom fell into the well during a wedding ritual in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda. According to media reports, the incident took place when someone burst crackers during the baraat which frightened the horse and it fell into the well along with the groom.
