A horrifying video has revealed how years of smoking may affect your lungs. A clip, which has gone viral, shows a set of lungs which have been completely blackened after years of tar build up. According to The Sun, the video is from Wuxi People's Hospital in China. Dr Chen Jingyu received the organs donated by a 52-year-old who had chain smoked for 30 years before he died, it said. However, the doctors had to reject them because of their shocking condition. The clip shows lungs been heavily blackened due to decades of tobacco residue accumulation, and are far from the pink colour expected from healthy lungs.
Dr Chen, a leading lung transplant surgeon, said the donor had opted to donate his organs before his death, according to the report. However, after harvesting of the lungs they realised that they would not be able to give the lungs to a patient in need on the waiting list. The lungs were damaged with issues such as lung calcification, bullous lung disease and pulmonary emphysema - all thought to be the result of three decades of smoking.
