Earlier in January, in a growing sign of man-animal conflict, a leopard was caught on camera nearly mauling a man in Maharashtra’s Nashik. The big cat, which had entered the residential area recently, was terrorising people. Many people were injured while trying to catch the leopard.
Later, forest officials were called, who successfully managed to catch it. The small video clip tweeted by news agency ANI showed the leopard attacking a man. The animal lunged towards him and overpowered him. But it seems the victim was lucky or the animal was distracted by all the noise around him. Soon, he fled the spot and was later caught by the forest officials. A woman’s loud scream can also be heard in the background. The Nashik’s incident is yet another example of the growing strife between the animal kingdom and the human world.
On January 21st, the residents of the Sadullapur village of Greater Noida had an exciting Sunday after sighting a leopard in the morning. The animal reportedly attacked a boy, Komal Kumar, who walking down a road. The boy escaped with minor injuries. Before it was caught, the leopard injured a villager after it jumped across the boundary wall of a lentil field. Fortunately, the veterinarian from Delhi Zoo managed to tranquilise the big cat after which it was taken to the Surajpur Nursery, a forest ranger who was part of the rescue operation told the Indian Express. It is being assumed that this was the same animal which was spotted near the Stellar Jeevan society in Greater Noida on Wednesday night. Chief Conservator of Forests, Lalit Verma said that the leopard may have travelled across the Hindon river chasing an animal when it reached the residential area. He added that the big cat has been given a fitness certificate since it has no injury marks or internal bruises.
