Both the actors first met on July 6, 2011 which is Ranveer Singh's birthday. Ranveer revealed during an interview and said, 'It was my birthday and i was out on dinner with my family. Suddenly, I saw also Deepika arrived there with her friends and wondered how can one look so beautiful. I even tried to talk to her but she was gone till then''.

While, Deepika Padukone also remebered her first meeting with Ranveer and revealed during an interview, 'When I first saw Ranveer in Band Baaja Baarat, I thought he was not of my type. But, after I met him personally, I realised I was wrong about him''.

As per some media reports, it was that time in Deepika's life when she broke up with Ranbir Kapoor and was focusing on her professional career. While, Ranveer was new in the industry and has delivered one hit at the box-office. Later, both were signed for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Ramleela' which was also a commercial success.
