Miss Deaf World might not get as limelight and importance as Miss World but this time India has a reason to rejoice. 21 years old Uttar Pradesh girl Vidisha Baliyan became the first Indian to win the prestigious title at the international annual event held at South Africa this year. Eleven finalists from sixteen participating countries were chosen for the final round and India made it to the top slot. Vidisha originally hails from Muzaffarnagar city and is a modelling student from the Asian Academy of Film & Television. Her family lives in Ghaziabad.

She is a former international tennis player and also represented India in the Deaflympics. She participated in the beauty pageant after a severe back injury. She even won a silver medal for tennis at the international deaf Olympics.

Baliyan completed her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and was always interested in choosing sports as her career. She has 100% hearing impairment in her right ear and 90% in the left, but she can lip-read and talk.

Baliyan had won Miss Deaf India title in February and was being trained since April by India’s first female Paralympic winner, Deepa Malik, and her team, to participate in the international contest.
