Om Puri's sudden death came as a huge shock to his fans. The recipient of two national awards and two Filmfare Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, he had a memorable film career, for over four decades. The Padma Shri awardee, studied at the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India. The legendary actor featured in films like Aakrosh, Ardh Satya, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Mirch Masala and many others. Aakrosh, the 1980 arthouse film got the ‘Golden Peacock' for the Best Film at the International Film Festival of India. Maachis: A 1996 Indian Hindi period political thriller film directed by Gulzar and produced by R. V. Pandit. It starred Om Puri in the lead role.
