Known as a carrier of good luck and fate, disciples when submerging the water pray for his return the next year. So that the next year, Lord Ganesh brings them luck, victory and success.

The 11th day of Ganesh Chaturthi, is also believed to take all the bad luck of his disciples with himself.

The Ganesh visarjan begins with Uttaranga pooja which involves oil lamps, fragrance, food, incense and flowers.

The disciples also perform the religious procedure by chanting of the aartis and the mantras. Delicacies such as modak among other sweets are distributed among his disciples.

The disciples also place curd on Ganesha’s palm to indicate that the lord visits them again next year. Apart from curd, coconut is put on a red cloth and jaggery along with five different grains that are then around his hands.

After the procedure, the idol is then finally submerged with chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Moriya’. The disciples then offer a final prayer both for the lord’s journey and for his return.
