World Tourism Day 2018: Five counties where tourists outnumber locals

World Tourism Day has been celebrated for over 30 years on September 27 worldwide every year. It was started by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in 1980 to emphasize the importance of tourism to a country’s economic well-being. In addition to tourists exploring other countries to witness or be a part of another country’s social, cultural or political difference, World Tourism Day is also celebrated to raise awareness among the tourists. One finest example of raising concerns with tourism is at the May Bay in Thailand that was closed to tourists because a huge part of the coral reef was being affected. Hence, World Tourism Day also reminds tourists or travellers both to remain mindful of not spoiling the environment through practices that can’t be restored. The responsibly to take care of Mother Earth is the tourists' duty as it is the locals. For countries such as France, Spain and Italy, given their sheer size, tourism and them relying on the country’s Tourism only seems fair. But these small places have also proven that they can have tourism as big as the bigger countries.
