Chandrayaan-2: India launches second Moon mission
India on Monday successfully launched its second lunar mission Chandrayaan-2 on-board its powerful rocket GSLV-MkIII-M1 from the spaceport at Sriharikota to explore the uncharted south pole of the celestial body by landing a rover.

The geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle lifted-off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here into cloudy skies at 2.43 pm and successfully placed the 3,850-kg Chandrayaan-2 into the earth orbit 16 minutes and 14 seconds later.

The lift-off of Chandrayaan-2 was broadcast live on TV and the space agency's official social media accounts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also watched the live broadcast of the launch event.

ISRO had called off the launch earlier on July 15 after a technical snag was detected ahead of the lift-off. However, the technical glitch was rectified within a week and the Indian space agency came out with flying colours by successfully launching its second Moon mission.
