1.The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, was born Lhamo Dhondup on July 6, 1935 to peasants in Taktser, a village in northeastern Tibet.
The 81st birthday of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is being celebrated on Thursday in the main Tibetan temple Tsuglagkhang in Mcleodganj, Dharamshala.
The celebrations will commence from 8 AM and will include cultural presentations by TIPA (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts), TCV schools, Indo-Tibetan friendship association and other such organisations, spokesperson of Tibetan Government Jamphel Shonu.
Three civil servants, who have served more than 25 years in the Central Tibetan Administration by the officiating Sikyong, will be felicitated on the occasion.

2. He was found by Tibetan monks when he was 2 years old. At 2, he was renamed Tenzin Gyatso, took the throne at age 4 and became a monk at age 6.
