BJP leader Jaya Prada lost to Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Rampur parliamentary seat. During the poll campaign, Azam Khan made sexist jibes against one-time colleague Jaya Prada. In return, the actor-turned-politician severely criticised Azam Khan heavily. Though Jaya Prada fought the elections bravely against Azam Khan, she had to face massive defeat. In a conversation with News Nation at session 4 of Hamari Sansad Samemlan on Friday, the actor-turned-politician spoke about her political battles.

Jaya Prada broke down as she recalled her struggles with the moment when she wanted to commit suicide. She revealed that her then party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav “never bothered to call even once.”

Taking a dig at Azam Khan, Jaya Prada said that People who can't respect women are not eligible to be parliamentarians. The actor-politician said that she wanted to give people of Rampur hospitals, schools and roads.
