Iconic photos from August 15, 1947
India will be celebrating 70 years of Independence as a national holiday commemorating the nation's independence from the United Kingdom on August 15. PM Jawaharlal Nehru, who had become the first Prime Minister of India that day, raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. This happened only after years of struggle, of invaders coming and leaving, of riots, wars, and disagreements between our leaders. Here are 10 iconic photos from August 15, 1947.
