A special CBI court convicted Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case on Friday. He is not the only one who has faced such a trial and been convicted by a court. The list is endless. Asaram Bapu, Narayan Sai (Asaram’s son), Sant Rampal and many more have been under the scanner of judiciary. They have been facing court trials in rape and criminal cases. Here’s a list of those self-proclaimed Godmen. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh: Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in a 15-year-old rape case by a special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25, 2017. In April 2002, anonymous letter was written to Punjab and Haryana High Court chief justice complaining about the sexual exploitation of woman followers at Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa.
Asaram Bapu
Asaram Bapu: The self-proclaimed Godman, Asaram Bapu had been convicted and is currently behind the bars in a rape case filed on August 20, 2013. According to the complaint, Asaram had raped a 16-year-old girl on the pretext of giving her blessing in a Jodhpur ashram. Apart from this, a woman in Surat also accused him of raping her several times at his another ashram between 1997 and 2006.
Narayan Sai
Narayan Sai: Son of Asaram Bapu, Narayan Sai was also sent to jail in rape and sexual assault case filed by a woman at an ashram of Asaram. Besides this, he is also accused of having physical relations with many other women.
Swami Om
Swami Om: Bigg Boss fame Swami Om was arrested in a case filed by his brother. He was accused of stealing his brother’s bicycles along with some documents. The FIR in the case was registered in November 2008 against Swami Om aka Vinodanand Jha at Lodhi Colony police station.
Sant Rampal
Sant Rampal: Arrested on November 19, 2014 from his ashram in Hisar, Sant Rampal is an accused in a murder case. Violent protests took place at the time of his arrest and six people were killed and over 200 injured in the clashes. According to reports, he was also accused of having sexual relationships with his female followers.
Swami Nithyananda
Swami Nithyananda: Swami Nithyananda came into limelight in 2010 when a video of him surfaced on news channels and social media wherein he was seen engaged in sexual acts with a television actress. He was also accused of raping his former disciple.
