Lohri 2019: India gets into celebratory mood with traditional harvest festival - see pics

The festival of Lohri was celebrated across India, especially in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh with traditional fervour and gaiety on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Bonfires, an important part of the festivities, were lit as families danced to the tunes of famous festival songs. During the day, children and youngsters held kite-flying competitions at many places including Ludhiana, Mohali, and Jalandhar. The sky was dotted with multi-coloured kites like 'Tukkal', 'Chhaj', 'Pari' of different sizes and shapes carrying 'Happy Lohri' and 'Happy New Year' messages. Traditionally, Lohri marks the harvest season in Punjab. People distributed jaggery, peanuts, and popcorns- the three edibles associated with Lohri. Braving cold weathers, thousands of devotees also thronged gurdwaras to pay obeisance on the occasion of 352nd birth anniversary of 10th Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh. The Golden Temple in Amritsar was decorated with special lighting on this occasion. Let’s have a quick glimpse of those colourful celebrations all over the day.
