Mumbai braces for 'extremely' heavy rainfall; communication disrupted, schools and colleges shut

The incessant downpour has lashed Mumbai and its surrounding areas on Saturday morning, triggering a fresh rain alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next 24 hours. In the view of this fresh warning, authorities have declared a holiday in schools and colleges across the metropolis. Heavy rains have also disrupted normal life in neighbouring Thane and Palghar districts. One person was electrocuted in Thane city while another suffered serious injuries after the roof of a bakery collapsed in Mumbra in the district. The IMD cautioned people, saying heavy rainfall warning on a "very-high-tide day" is "not a good combination". (All pictures are taken from PTI)
