A rare phenomenon is taking place in the states of Chicago, Minneapolis, Illinois and they are here to show you the dark colours of climate change. Polar Vortex, the geographical phenomenon which have hit parts of the United States records a temperature even colder than Alaska and Antarctica. As temperatures heats up to two or three times more in the Arctic, many researchers believe that can lead to frigid temperatures in the continental U.S. From frozen noodles, hair, helmets, these ‘cold-wave’ of climate change have claimed at least 21 people alone this January. Polar Vortex is likely caused by frost quakes or "cryoseisms,” which occur “when water trapped underground freezes suddenly as the temperature drops.

The extreme cold has stooped as low as 51 degrees below zero in Chicago minus 49 in Minneapolis.

The occurrence of Polar Vortex has also reportedly caused a loud, ground-shaking phenomenon to occur: so-called “frost quakes.”

While 21 people are reported to have died because of Polar Vortex, the official cause of a number of the deaths remain inconclusive.

You can literally freeze yourself during Polar Vortex. A University of lowa student was found apparently frozen to death on Wednesday; a 38-year-old woman found frozen in her home where the thermostat had malfunctioned in Milwaukee.
