Argentina
The FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers have witnessed close encounters all over the world as top teams battle it out to secure a berth for the upcoming Russian summer. South American qualifiers have been one of the most exciting as Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia have qualified for football’s most prestigious tournament. Peru on the other hand, heads to next month’s intercontinental playoffs at the expense of Chile, who were eliminated. Argentina qualified for the World Cup courtesy Lionel Messi’s hat-trick against Ecuador. The Barcelona forward completely foxed his opponents and helped La Albiceleste script a 3-1 victory.
Brazil
Five time champions Brazil sailed into the tournament as they finished qualification as the top country in CONMEBOL. Brazil stomped their authority by trouncing Chile 3-0 on their way to a World Cup berth. The huge defeat however drowned Chile’s hopes of a Cup berth.
Uruguay
Uruguay defeated Bolivia 4-2 to secure a berth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Their star player Luis Suarez scored twice as Uruguay gained the 2nd position in South American qualifiers.
Colombia
Colombia finished fourth in the CONMEBOL standings for Russia 2018 after a 1-1 draw with Peru.
Peru
Peru will face New Zealand for the 2018 World Cup after they drew 1-1 with Colombia.
