India vs West Indies 1st Test: Kohli, Pant, Bumrah, Jadeja, Ashwin eye big records
India will start their World Test Championship campaign as they take on West Indies starting Thursday in Antigua. While India will be looking to continue their domination on this tour, they will also look to make a good start in the premier test competition.
Apart from the team milestones, many players will also be eyeing some personal records during the match.
Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli will be eyeing two massive milestones during the match. Kohli just one win away from joining MS Dhoni as India’s most successful Test captain. Kohli has so far won 26 matches as captain while Dhoni led India to 27 Test match wins.
Virat Kohli is just one century away from equalling Ricky Ponting's record of 19 centuries as a captain in Test cricket. Kohli, who currently has 18 centuries as captain, is way behind South Africa's Graeme Smith who has 25 hundreds to his name in 109 matches as Test captain.
Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah will look to become the second fastest Indian to get 50 wickets in Test cricket. Bumrah has 49 wickets from 10 matches so far. If he gets to 50 in his 11th Test, he will draw level with Narendra Hirwani as the second-fastest behind R Ashwin who got to 50 Test wicketsin just nine matches.
Rishabh Pant
India's young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant may also overtake MS Dhoni during the Antigua Test match. Pant will be aiming to become the fastest Indian wicketkeeper to 50 dismissals in Tests. He currently has 42 dismissals (40 catches, two stumpings) in 9 Test matches. MS Dhoni had needed 15 matches to reach the mark.
If Pant gets to fifty dismissals in this match, he will draw level with the existing world record of ten Tests held by Mark Boucher and Tim Paine, who each got there in ten Tests.
Ravindra Jadeja
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja needs eight more to complete 200 wickets in Tests. If gets to the mark in Antigua, Jadeja will become the tenth Indian bowler in the 200-wicket club and the second-fastest Indian to get there after R Ashwin.
Ravichandran Ashwin
R Ashwin will also have a personal milestone in sight. The off-spinner who has 342 wickets from 65 Tests so far, will be looking to become the fourth Indian bowler to get 350 wickets in Test after Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh.
Mohammed Shami
Pacer Mohammed Shami needs six wickets to complete 150 in Test cricket. He has 144 wickets from 40 Tests.
