Interested individuals can enter their coordinates for the location they want to adopt and learn more about the piece of land or sea that they have adopted.

Through NASA’s Worldview website, individuals also get the opportunity to take a closer look at their adopted location. Users can take photos, share social media posts and print out pictures of their locations.

The campaign has earmarked 64,000 pieces to be assigned randomly to those who sign on with no legal entitlement to the adoption. In fact, once all the 64,000 patches are taken, the system reassigns them to new participants, so everyone who wants to participate will be able to.

The goal is to have the entire planet adopted by Earth Day, April 22.
