Beware! A massive earthquake may rock India soon

More than 600 people were killed when a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador. According to geologists, a subduction process similar to the one that caused Ecuadorean earthquake is happening under the Himalayan region as well. Now Indian plate is getting inside the Chinese landmass and this northward push has been creating extreme tectonic strain in the region, making India more prone to earthquakes.

Beware! A massive earthquake may rock India soon

Global seismic activities have caused a series of earthquakes in different parts of the world. If geologists are to be believed this could be a sign of more earthquakes that might soon rattle India and neighbouring regions.

We cannot forget that Nepal earthquake was the result of this same process. This whole theory is being built using the historical data from the US Geological Survey which shows that on an average only one earthquake of magnitude 8 or above, called as ‘great earthquakes’, takes place in a year anywhere in the world. And this year there hasn't been a 8-plus quake so far.

Who knows if India would ever face such major geological catastrophe? The massive energy stored can beget earthquakes of magnitude greater than 8 or even 9 and it can come at any time.

Science says, frequency of earthquakes increases every year exponentially as we look at smaller magnitudes. Is this rash of earthquakes a sign of climate change and human-led destruction to mother nature?
