Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set to take another giant leap in aerospace sector, as it plans to launch the Chandrayaan 2 on July 15, 2019. As soon as Chandrayaan 2 succeeds in a soft landing on the Moon, it will be a historic moment for India and as well as ISRO.
It is to be noted that ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 will be deployed on the far side of the lunar surface. The far side of the Moon is also known as the ‘South Pole – Aitken Basin.’ The place is still a mystery for astronauts and researchers. Therefore, the accomplishment of sending spacecraft to the basin is viewed as a historical one.
Now you must be waiting eagerly to witness the historic moment when ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 will makes soft landing on the Moon.
Chandrayaan 2: Launch date & Time
Chandrayaan 2 will be launched in the wee hours of July 15 at 0251 hours from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on-board GSLV Mk-III. It will be injected into an Earth parking 170 x40400 km orbit. Subsequently, Chandrayaan-2 will be put on Lunar Transfer Trajectory.
Chandrayaan 2 has three elements including the Rover, the Lander and the Orbiter. As soon as the spacecraft will land on the moon, the lander will separate from the Orbiter and then perform a series of complex manoeuvres comprising of tough braking and fine braking. The lander, named Vikram, will land near the Moon’s South Pole on September the 6th, 2019. It will then carry out experiments on Lunar surface for 1 Lunar day. A single lunar day is equal to 14 Earth days. However. Orbiter will continue its mission for a duration of one year.
Chandrayaan 2 launch: When & where to watch
Chandrayaan 2 launch will be one of the biggest events and we are hoping that ISRO scientists will script a history. ISRO Online (https://www.isro.gov.in/) will live telecast the Chandrayaan 2 launch. You can follow the official twitter handle of ISRO and Facebook page for regular updates, images and videos.
Doordarshan (DD) will live telecast the Chandrayaan 2 launch. You can also follow Doordarshan’s youtube channel for live streaming of Chandrayaan 2 launch. Reliance Jio users can watch it on Jio TV.
Chandrayaan 2: Launch Tickets
ISRO has opened the door for public viewing of the Chandrayaan 2 launch. ISRO has initiated the online registration process for watching the upcoming Chandrayaan-2 launch. The registration has begun at 00:00 hrs on July 4, 2019.
During the mission, Chandrayaan-2 will reveal how solar wind interacts with the lunar surface and help in determining the process behind the formation of lunar water.
Chandrayaan-2 Mission: Objectives
To demonstrate the ability to soft-land on the surface of the Moon and to operate a rover on the surface.
To study the surface of the moon.
To study the density of the electrons in the Moon's ionosphere that is the uppermost part of the atmosphere that is ionised by radiation.
To identify or to find out the minerals and indicators of hydroxyl and water molecules.
The Chandrayaan-2 mission is completely an indigenous as all payloads and all parts are developed by India.
