New Delhi:

Climate change has become a major issue all across the globe and a recent study has indicated that the warming soils are releasing more carbon, ultimately creating a dangerous feedback loop which could further raise the temperature of Earth and make it hotter.

As a matter of fact, the increase in temperature would be greater than estimated, which is a serious matter of concern.

Majority of the research regarding climate change and its impact is conducted at an atmospheric level. This analysis is based on the observational research which took place for 26 years in a hardwood forest in Massachusetts.

The researchers artificially heated certain sections of the soil to see the after effects. The main purpose of the experiment was to measure how the atmospheric warming had an impact on the soil and how it helped carbon dioxide escape Earth.

The research has revealed some shocking things and indicated that the warm dirt has heated up Earth and accelerated the process of global warming. Often we think and discuss climate change, the word soil doesn't find any prominence.

The latest study proves that soil too plays a crucial role in the climate change and we should not ignore the same, considering we are dependent on soil for our food.

The team of researchers from the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Massachusetts, the University of New Hampshire and the University of Massachusetts, have said that the increasing temperature leads to a two-stage cycle where the carbon output rises for many years and then levels off. This is because of the soil microbes accustoming to the warmer conditions.

Once the soil microbes readjust, then the carbon released by them again rises. The more the soil heats up, the more amount of carbon is released into the atmosphere. This, in turn, increases Earth's temperature and is a major cause of worry.

The more the atmosphere warms up, this leads to more heating of the soil and ultimately causes more emission of carbon.
