Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, AS Kiran Kumar, recently inaugurated a two-day ‘mega science fair’ at a school in Puducherry, where he said that the space agency is utilising the technology to address the difficulties faced on our planet Earth.

“We are making use of technology to address the problems faced on earth. We are making use of technology to address the problems faced in augmenting educational capability, enhancing tele-medicine facility for the people in remote areas and islands,” said Kumar.

Kumar said that the satellites generate a large quantum of information which the government use and provides capability for improved governance.

Kumar also said that the government uses applied data to locate the resources of water and drill bore wells. He said that the data derived from satellites is used for several other activities.

He said that the youth should always be curious to ask questions of the next level.

“The youth should not refrain from questioning and they should take their curiosity to the next level even if no answer was available to their questions,” he said.

He advised the youth, who had gathered at the venue, to learn from the mistakes of others and build up their capability.

He stated that farmers, fishermen and others had been benefitting with the communication through satellites. Presently there were 38 satellites developed and launched by “our own launch vehicle and they are furnishing information relating to various areas including making available advance information about cyclones and sometimes super cyclone.”

“Satellite has no boundaries, either national or international and collects information on surface of earth, vegetation, clouds and even pollution,” he said highlighting the quantum of work that had gone into the Mars Mission and Chandrayaan-I.

Kumar interacted with the students and visited various stalls.
