ISRO has come up with a new development- a high energy lithium ion battery, to be taken into use in spacecrafts. ISRO will use this in automobile industry by doing technology transfer of this innovation, for manufacturing solar hybrid cars.
Sources from ISRO have told India Today that the lithium ion battery was used on a Maruti Suzuki Omni for demonstration, to show that it was not only effective in cutting down cost but also be eco-friendly.
Working of the lithium ion battery
This high energy lithium batteries have been developed by ISRO for a solar panel. The panel will control the electronics of the vehicle and will ensure a balanced power in order to provide a smooth ride. ISRO was requested by road transport for sharing the technology to help in Improving Efficiency in vehicles developed in India.
"We are ready to transfer this technology and make our automobile industry one of the most technology advanced in the world. Our prowess In Space technology has been shown time and again and with this new innovation, the space organisation is now set to take the country to a new high! Quite literally." a source said.
Well, the only problem now ISRO is facing is how to cut down on the cost of manufacturing the car so that all can afford it.
The technology was tested at the Vikram Sarabhai space centre ( VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram.
