The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) launch of India’s eighth private navigation satellite ‘IRNSS-1H’ on Thursday was unsuccessful. ISRO chief Kiran Kumar said that the heat shield failed to separate during the launch.

The 1425-kg satellite was expected to expand the existing seven satellites of the NavIC constellation. The launch vehicle PSLV-C39 lifted the satellite on Thursday using the 'XL' variant, of PSLV equipped with six strap-ons, each carrying 12 tons of propellant.

The three phases of the launch went smoothly, but unfortunately, the payload supposed to be separated at the start of the fourth phase could not be detached.

ISRO has surpassed various milestones in recent times and let’s have a look at some of its recent launches:

# Oct 06, 2016: India's GSAT-18 Communication Satellite launched

# Dec 07, 2016: PSLV-C36 Successfully Launches RESOURCESAT-2A Remote Sensing Satellite

# On 15 February 2017, the space agency launched the PSLV-C37 rocket with a record-setting 104 satellites on board the craft. The PSLV-C37, which launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, carried aboard the CartoSat-2D satellite, as well as 103 nano-satellites from various countries.

# May 05, 2017: GSLV successfully launched the South Asia Satellite

# June 23, 2017: PSLV-C38 Successfully launched 31 Satellites in a Single Flight

# June 05, 2017: ISRO had launched its most powerful and heaviest geostationary rocket carrying advanced communication satellite GSAT-19
