Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan)

The Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan, a celestial event that occurs during the immersion of moon in the shadow of the Earth, will take place on March 23. The Earth’s shadow falls on the moon during a Lunar Eclipse. When the moon passes through the umbra, the dark shadow of the Earth, a partial or total Lunar Eclipse takes place.

But when the moon passes through penumbra, the outer part of the shadow, a penumbral eclipse occurs.

On March 23 from 1.54pm to 7.24pm, only the end of the penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be visible and it could be witnessed in most parts of Asia, Australia, North America and South America.

The Lunar Eclipse will occur for 4 hours and 15 minutes. The next eclipse falls on September 16-17 this year.
