New Delhi:

Indian Space Research Organisation has identified four Indian Air Force pilots for its ambitious ‘Gaganyaan’ manned space mission programme. Before leaving for the mission, they would take astronaut training in Russia which is likely to begin in the third week of January. Now, some more information related to this mission has been made public. According to latest information, Gaganyaan Astronauts would get to cherish some 'desi' foods in space. "For the Indian astronauts scheduled to go into Space in Mission Gaganyaan, food items including Egg rolls, Veg rolls, Idli, Moong dal halwa and Veg pulav have been prepared by the Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore. Food heaters would also be provided to them," reported ANI.

Apart from this, special containers have been made to help astronauts drink liquids in zero gravity.

Earlier, ISRO chief K Sivan said that the activities for the mission were going on very smoothly and the take-off may shift to next year. "We had good progress in 2019 as regards Gaganyaan. And many of the designs were completed and astronauts’ selection process is over. Now four are identified for training purpose..that process is also completed," Sivan had said.

Gaganyaan is India's Human Space Mission which aims to send Indians to space by 2022. The programme envisages demonstrating human space flight capability with three crew members for 5-7 days in Low Earth Orbit and safely recover them after the mission.

The overall configuration of GSLV-MK III, crew escape system, crew module and service module for Gaganyaan have been finalised, an ISRO official said, adding that the work for short-listing crew members is underway.

India has signed agreements with Russia and France for cooperation on the ambitious Gaganyaan mission, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech in 2018.
