More than 69 butterfly species recorded across Delhi-NCR

In an amusing occurrence, fifteen teams from Bombay Natural History Society have spotted more than 69 species of butterflies as a part of first ever 'butterfly count' in NCR.

These results, which came as a delightful surprise for butterfly lovers and lepidopterists, were announced on Saturday in an event which also saw submission of names of four butterflies by butterfly enthusiasts. The authorities said the newest found species will be declared as the state butterfly of the capital.

In the survey some of the rare and uncommon butterflies were also spotted that included psyche, Indian red flash, chocolate pansy, red pierrot, African babul and painted lady.

The reports suggests that presence of such large number of butterflies points towards a healthy enviroment, as they play a crucial role in an ecosystem.
