OSIRIS-REx spacecraft to begin its journey on September 8

New Delhi:

University of Arizona has joined hands with NASA scientists for a major project - OSTRIS-REX space journey for the first asteriod mission. The OSTRIS-REX spacecraft will bring the samples back once it visits the asteroid Bennu. Its journey to asteriod Bennu will begin on September 8 it is attached with a single solid-fuel booster to its side.

The $800 million mission is scheduled to take off after a month from the United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket which has 411 configurations. Scientists are leaving no stone unturned to see that every detail is covered without any ignorance.

The Centaur Upper Stage and Boattail of the spacecraft will be lifted on Wednesday. The initial power of OSIRIS-REx will be checked by scientists on Thursday.The Combined Systems Test which is said to be one of the most important as well as crictical test of the vehicle is scheduled on August 15. Scientsts have only a month of time span to reiew the spacecraft.

Once NASA OSIRIS-REx reaches the asteriod Benn it will start collecting every bits and piece of information and return back after it completes its 7-year roundtrip voyage.Apart from bringing the details it will also help the scientists to understand the origin of the solar system.
