SpaceX is set to complete another major milestone on its journey to space as the aerospace company is set to launch the Falcon Heavy rocket for the first time in the history of space science.
After several setbacks to begin the test in the time, SpaceX has previously postponed the engine fore up of the upcoming rocket.
However, the engine test of Falcon Heavy rocket is now scheduled to take place on Friday at 3 pm local time (8 pm GMT).
According to a report on Digital Trends, the Falcon Heavy is the most powerful rocket in SpaceX’s fleet and in terms of power it is only second to Nasa’s Saturn V craft. Saturn V craft of American space agency NASA took astronauts to the moon in the late 1960s and early 70s.
Falcon Heavy rocket is essentially three Falcon 9s, SpaceX’s smaller and most used spacecraft, fixed together with a single upper stage to carry payloads, the website reported.
Moreover, SpaceX is also gearing up to use its pioneering rocket recycling process on the Falcon Heavy and will utilise it to complete the six-month mission to Mars. They are also planning to carry a Tesla Roadster to the red planet, where it will remain in orbit.
However, SpaceX has not decided yet when to send Falcon Heavy rocket to space.
Earlier, on December 15, SpaceX had launched its 13th commercial resupply services mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA. The launch took place from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
